What changes with the ecological oil filter?

The name ecological oil filter raises doubts, but everyone knows that the oil filter has a crucial function in the functioning of the car: it is responsible for removing impurities from the engine oil, and responsible for causing less wear on the parts the same. With the increase in discussions about ecology and more conscious disposal, this filter has undergone changes. What changes, after all, with the ecogard filters reviews?

It is worth clarifying, first, that the functions remain exactly the same. In fact, it is very possible that the reader has even installed this type of filter in your car without knowing it was ecological - since, in fact, they work the same way.

What does an oil filter do?

Did you know that, until the introduction of oil filters in 1924, oil changes had to be carried out every 900 km? Many changes have taken place in the manufacture of cars and parts to this day, but the development of these filters has helped to achieve a considerably larger brand. Today, exchanges can happen every 15,000 km traveled (with synthetic oil).

Therein lies the importance of the oil filter: it makes the lubrication system of a car more efficient, resulting in a better functioning of the engine and a better use of the oil introduced.

The filter works as follows: the oil reaches it through a pump. When this happens, the fluid passes through this part leaving behind numerous particles and impurities. This oil then goes on its way until it reaches the moving parts of the engine.

When should I change the filter?

There is no single answer. It is very important that each owner understands that each vehicle works in a different way (because they are made up of very different parts). Therefore, there are always specific recommendations posted in the manufacturer's manual for each car.

These recommendations should always be checked before exchanges are made. But, normally, the manuals indicate that the oil filter (either shielded or ecological) is changed with each corresponding oil change. Others indicate that these filters must be changed after every two vehicle oil changes.

As already said, there are cars that can reach up to 15 thousand kilometers driven before they need to change the oil (especially if it is synthetic). If the oil is mineral, the changes should generally occur every 7 thousand kilometers traveled.

Again: it depends a lot on the car model and the specific recommendations of each manufacturer's manual. It is always good to check them, therefore, and talk to your trusted mechanic.

The armored oil filter and the ecological filter

Although these two types of oil filters have the same function and their exchange is similar, their composition is different. The shield has metal parts that are replaced by plastic in the ecological filter.

In addition, the armored oil filter goes through a much more extensive manufacturing process, which involves a stamping process on several of its parts and also a painting process.

The composition

The difference is great. The armored filter has a lot of additional elements, which also involve metallic materials. The ecological filter, in turn, is formed only by its filter element and its plastic cover, and is generally developed and suitable for engines that already include this type of technology.

This is also something very important: it is not the driver or the owner of the vehicle who decides which filter to use: it depends a lot on what is specified in the vehicle manufacturer's manual.
